Staple Hair Products

Hey everyone!

Here is the complete list of all of my staple hair products. I do have another version of favorite products that I put into a blog post, but this is the updated list of all of my absolute must-have products! As you will see, there are some products that I have added and a few that have been removed! I hope you find it helpful and informative!

Cleansers

I no longer use shampoos, so when I cleanse my hair I only use a conditioner or a masque to cowash or deep condition. I do this once a week! Here are some of the conditioners and masques I use as staples:

TRESemmé Naturals

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use it as a cowash
  • How often do you use it?: I only cowash when I want a fresh head of hair so I can do a new style. I deep condition once a week, so for the most part, that is all that I need. I do not cowash very often because I don't really need to since I already deep condition once a week.
  • How long have you been using this product?: Since April 2013 when I did my big chop
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: This product has amazing slip! I use it to cowash because it allows me to detangle my hair easily. My hair is always very soft and smooth after I use this product. It can be used as a leave-in as well, but I only use it as a cowash
  • Is this the only co-wash you use as a staple?: For the most part, yes. Like I said before, I don't cowash that often, so I do not need to purchase a bunch of conditioners to cowash with. However, I recently started using TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done and I am really loving it so far.
  • Where do you buy this product from and how much does it cost?: I purchase this product from Walmart or Target for about $5.

Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use it as a deep conditioner, and sometimes I use it as a styler
  • How often do you use it?: I use it once a week
  • How long have you been using this product?: Since around September 2012
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: This deep conditioner makes my hair so soft and adds so much hydration! I usually add in a little bit of extra virgin olive oil to aid in moisture retention and honey to attract more moisture. Even before I started adding these things to it, this product still hydrated my hair SO much! This product contains sea kelp (seals and smooths the hair cuticles), argan oil (restores shine and promotes elasticity), and shea butter (deeply moisturizes and conditions the scalp).
  • Is this the only deep conditioner you use as a staple?: No it is not. When it comes to deep conditioning, I'm very biased. I only use Shea Moisture products to deep condition (besides my DIY masques) because I feel like my hair loves their masques best. I love all of their masques and my other favorites include the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Treatment Masque, the Yucca and Plantain Anti-Breakage Strengthening Masque, and the Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System Hair Masque.
  • Where do you buy this product and how much does it cost?: I purchase all of these deep conditioners from Target for about $12.

Leave-ins and Detanglers

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-in Conditioner

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use it as a leave-in and detangler for twistouts or for wash-and-gos.
  • How often do you use it?: Definitely multiple times a month. It works great under a lot of my different stylers, so it is my ultimate go-to leave-in. It is the absolute best!
  • How long have you been using this product?: Since November 2014
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: It contains organic shea butter, Jamaican black castor oil, peppermint, protein, keratin, and coconut oil. This product, of course, is a leave-in but it could be used as a styler as well just because it supplies amazing hold without a crunchy feel. This is why I love to use it as a wash-and-go in addition to the fact that it really defines my curls and makes them POP! It has great slip and allows for easy detangling as well!
  • Is this the only leave-in you use as a staple?: Nope! I also use the Shea Moisture African Black Soap Balancing Conditioner as a leave-in. It moisturizes my hair to no end and it also keeps my hair soft, hydrated, and shiny for days! I also just got into using Kinky-Curly Knot Today and I think it is amazing! I can see why it is a staple for so many people and I definitely think it's a new staple for me as well!
  • Where do you buy this product and how much does it cost?: I purchase this leave-in from Target for about $10.

  Stylers

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use it as a styler for my two strand twists, twistouts, cornrows, flat twistouts, and even high buns and pony tails. I also use it to seal in my oils
  • How often do you use it?: I use it frequently each month. It's always my go-to creamy styler!
  • How long have you been using this product?: Since around November 2012
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: This product gives you a very lightweight hold. It doesn't weigh your hair down. This product also smells amazing, is very moisturizing and adds so much shine to me hair. It contains coconut oil (hydrates and protects hair while reducing breakage), silk protein (soothes hair for a soft and silky feel), and neem oil (controls frizz and adds shine).
  • Is this the only creme styler you use as a staple?: Yes!
  • Where do you buy this product from and how much does it cost?: I purchase this product from Target or Walmart for about $11.

Shea Moisture Yucca & Plantain Anti-Breakage Firm Hold Gel Cream

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use it as a styler for wash-and-gos
  • How often do you use it?: This is a newer product that I just started using, so as of now I am using it about every other week. I use this product with the Yucca and Plantain Anti-Breakage Wave Defining Lotion and it works wonders for giving me a full and big wash-and-go. If I want a tighter curl with more definition, then I will use the gel cream with a light styling milk.
  • How long have you been using this product?: Since March 2015
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: The main ingredients in this product are yucca extract (promotes hair growth), plantain extract (nourishes hair with moisture and is rich in vitamin B), and baobab oil (contains vitamins that fortify and strengthen hair). This product has a ton of slip, so it is awesome for detangling while styling. It is very lightweight and provides great moisture and hold without leaving hair weighed down and frizzy! It also has a very light scent, so it isn't overwhelming! You will also get some amazing curl definition with this product
  • Is this the only gel you use as a styler?: No it isn't! I also love the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Gel Soufflé. I know a lot of people are not a big fan of this product and I wasn't too fond of it at first either, but after experimenting with it and learning the proper way to use it for styling, I really do love this product now. It is amazing for providing hold, shine, and hydration!
  • Where do you buy this product from and how much does it cost?: I purchase this product from Target or Walmart for about $10.

Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use this butter mainly for twist outs and flexi rod sets
  • How often do you use it?: This is another product that I have just started using recently, so as of now I use it maybe every other week or so depending on what style I am doing
  • How long have you been using this product?: I started using this product April 2015
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: This product hydrates my hair to the absolute max! It also provides amazing hold to my twists and curls. It also elongates my curls and twists so that I do not have as much shrinkage. It is very lightweight and does not weigh my hair down but still does an amazing job of providing hold.
  • Is this the only butter you use as a styler?: Nope! I also use Camille Rose Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter Gel! I usually am not a fan of butters because they tend to be way too heavy for my fine, thin hair. However, these 2 products are extremely lightweight and moisturizing.
  • Where do you buy this product from and how much does it cost?: I purchase this product from Target for $17. These are definitely the most expensive hair products that I own, but a little bit goes a long way so I don't have to use a lot in order to get a desired style. This is obviously good so that I don't have to use too much and the jars can last a longer time.

Eco Styling Gel with Argan Oil

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use it for slicking back my hair for various styles and sometimes for twistouts.
  • How often do you use it?: Daily!!
  • How long have you been using this product?: Since April 2013
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: Amazing hold, no flaking, and a great shine!
  • Is this the only gel you use as a staple?: Yes and no. While the argan oil gel is my staple, I do use the other gels within the Eco Styler line from time to time. I do not use any other gels outside of Eco Styler.
  • Where do you buy this product from and how much does it cost?: I purchase this gel from Sally Beauty for about $6.

Sprays and Finishers

Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth and Repair High Shine Glosser

  • How do you use it for your hair?: I use it for adding shine to my styles by smoothing it over my twists, curls, and braids before I untwist, separate, and fluff.
  • How often do you use it?: Almost every time I do a twist out, braid out, or flexi rod set
  • How long have you been using this product?: Since May 2015
  • What are the benefits to expect with this product?: Great shine and softness that is lightweight.
  • Is this the only finishing spray you use as a staple?: Nope! I also use the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Reconstructive Elixir from time to time.
  • Where do you buy this product from and how much does it cost?: I purchase this elixir from Sally Beauty for about $9.
